When you write, please include your Mac model, your macOS version, the Tentpole version (Tentpole ▸ About Tentpole Studio), and what you were doing when the problem happened. Please never send your API keys.
Getting started
What do I need?
A Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or later) running macOS 26 or later. Writing needs nothing else. For AI features, you’ll need an API key from at least one provider, or a model running on your Mac.
How do I connect a provider?
Open Tentpole ▸ Settings ▸ Providers, choose a service, and paste your key. Each provider has a link to the page where you can create one:
- Anthropic (Claude): script breakdown and writing assist.
- fal.ai: images and video from many models, all with one key.
- Google: Veo 3.1 video with audio.
- ElevenLabs: character voices.
- OpenAI-compatible: any compatible LLM server, including LM Studio and Ollama.
- Local image server: Draw Things, Forge or AUTOMATIC1111 with its API turned on.
Keys are stored in your Mac’s Keychain and sent only to the service they belong to.
Can I use Tentpole without any keys?
Yes. The screenplay editor, Fountain, Final Draft and PDF import and export, and the timeline all work without keys. Script breakdown can also run on your Mac with an on-device model, chosen in Settings ▸ Writing. The model is downloaded once and runs without an internet connection after that.
Costs
Who pays for generation?
You do, directly to each provider, at their prices. Tentpole doesn’t mark anything up or resell generation. Before a batch runs, Tentpole shows an estimate, and the status bar shows a running total. These figures are approximate, so check your provider’s dashboard for exact charges, and set a spending limit there if you want a hard cap.
A generation failed. Was I charged?
That depends on the provider and on where the request failed. Tentpole retries some failures automatically. Check the provider’s usage page, and contact that provider about charges for failed jobs.

Pro is a one-time purchase, not a subscription.
I bought Pro but it isn’t unlocked
Open Tentpole ▸ Settings ▸ Pro and click Restore Purchases, signed in with the Apple Account you bought it with. This also unlocks Pro on your other Macs.
How do I get a refund?
Apple handles App Store refunds. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.
Projects and exporting
Where are my projects saved?
Each project is a single .tentpole file, saved wherever you choose. It holds the script and every image and clip in the project, so moving or backing up the file brings everything with it.
How do I get my script out?
Use File ▸ Export for Fountain, Final Draft (.fdx) or a formatted PDF.
How do I open my cut in Final Cut Pro or Resolve?
On the Timeline, export as FCPXML (a Pro feature). Tentpole makes a folder with the .fcpxml file and a copy of every clip it uses. In Final Cut Pro, choose File ▸ Import ▸ XML. In DaVinci Resolve, choose File ▸ Import ▸ Timeline. Keep the folder together so the media stays linked.
My timeline shows a still instead of video
A shot plays as a held still until it has a video clip. Generate video for the shot on the Board, then assemble the timeline again.
